Dear Klaxon,
SILVERKNOWES ACCESS
Thank you for your email dated 21 April 2017 regarding installing a dropped kerb near the roundabout at the foot of Silverknowes Road, to improve cycle access to the ramp down to Silverknowes Promenade.
I agree that this would be a worthwhile improvement and will add this work to our ongoing programme of planned minor improvements to the city’s cycle network. Due to the number of issues being brought to our attention across the city, we often group minor improvement works together into larger packages of work for issue to a contractor, to ensure best value for money for the Council. This can mean that some minor improvements take longer to deliver than might be expected, however we would hope to be able to undertake this work during the current financial year.
The introduction of new double yellow line parking restrictions involves a lengthy Traffic Restriction Order (TRO) process, which can take upwards of 9 months to complete. With this in mind, I would propose to initially delineate the dropped kerb with a white access protection marking and monitor whether this proves to be sufficient to deter parking across the drop crossing.
I hope that you find this response useful.
Watch this space, I guess :)
