We're running the Bike Curious Family again during EdFoC, in a reduced format to suit to limitations of the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation car park : )

It would be great to see some Forum members come along and show off their family rigs to bike curious families.

Please get in touch if you're able to help out: suzanne.forup@cyclinguk.org
Event details are on the EdFoC site: https://edfoc.org.uk/events/event/bike-curious-family-workshop-2017/

    thanks!

I'll hope to come (probably without any rig, sorry) as I'm still struggling to get toddler to enjoy wearing a bike helmet so I'm not taking him out without.

I have to come to a couple and although it's really cool to see the "way out" bike solutions, what I missed last year was a chance to have a go on a bike with a child seat on - front or back. There were a couple of bikes but one of them was absolutely massive - no way I could sit on it, and the other one was busy any time I went near it so I gave up. The previous year someone had a bike with a Yepp on the back and a Mini Yepp on the front and I was hoping to see it again but no joy!

So, a plea that simple is good too!

We used to go along with the Yepp mini on the Front and the Yepp on the back. But have now "upgraded" to a Helios Tandem. Need to work out if we can make it along, this year.

Kaputnik's new steed would seem eminently suitable as an example of not requiring elaborate trailer rigs to carry a young one AND shopping around

I'm hoping to come along and can bring a variety of equipment. I have trailer, tagalong, hamax seat and a wicker basket seat. However to bring them all I would have to load the car up what options are there for vehicle access to the site? I'm assuming if the event is in the car park then parking will be on street with the usual city centre restrictions.

Just make a windscreen sign saying "Official Exhibitor"!

Put the seats in the trailer, attach the trailer to the tagalong, sorted. Where's you sense of adventure? ;-)

@acsimpson there is a multi-storey park just along the Cowgate from High School Yards

There are some places to park for free on nearby streets. The pay & display spaces on Brown St are free on weekends (or used to be, anyway). I think any pay and display space (marked blue on the map here: http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/20085/parking_spaces/507/parking_bay_locations ) in the zone which contains Dumbiedykes will be free on a Saturday.

Thanks all, fimm I'm not sure that's compatible with the live demostration units. Although I suppose I could work a cargo trailer into the line to carry the seats.

Thanks everyone for the offers of help - looking forward to seeing any/all of you! I can pay back parking costs and buy you all tea and cake : )
I'll bring my own kit too - trailer, front and back seats plus our Follow Me Tandem on my other bike (although I'll need some help moving two bikes..)

@acsmimpson you didn't mention the live demonstration units ;-) you'll be wanting to bring a washing machine next... ;-)

A Washing machine might solve the problem, lie it on it's back and the demonstrators could stand inside. However I'm not sure Suzanne would be too pleased if I was to starts showing people how to use a washing machine at the event.

Following the observation @chdot made on another thread about how Elephant Bikes seem to be the most common single make of bike owned by CCE people, it occurred to me that the other very popular make/model is the Circe Helios. Both are intensely practical and suitable for family use.

I'm planning to come along and show off some of my fleet, but will have to restrict how much I bring...

Are there any specific requests for child carrying methods that people would like to see/try?

@greenroofer - I'd have thought Bromptons were pretty high on the list too.

"I'd have thought Bromptons were pretty high on the list too"

True, I always discount Bromptons though...

Not entirely a child friendly/useful bike.

I did once watch a man at a bus stop fold his B and put it in a bag.

He then folded his son's scooter and put it in a different bag.

I would not do that to my Brompton's front rack...
I have seen a child being transported while standing on the back rack of a Brompton - illegal of course.

@Hankchief, what are you thinking of bringing if there are no special requests?

I'm planning on coming along and will hopefully be able to fit a child trailer, tagalong and wicker basket into the boot.

I may also manage a hamax seat and recently gifted tailgator. Although it depends on how many passengers are in the car.

Was just thinking of the tandem & tag-a-along - I may have 1 passenger.

Sounds like you are covering most other bases...

With varying degrees of complexity I could have brought a trailgator, childseats and kiddy trailer but won't without specific requests.

Hello everyone, really pleased to see people are talking about coming along tomorrow! Please do bring whatever you can without too much hassle for yourselves : )
I'll be providing tea and cake via the next door cafe through some sort of secret system due to the ECCI ban on outside catering.
Fingers crossed the rain changes its mind..

Suzanne, Is there any plans for a family cycle after the workshop as there has been in some other years?

Lost track of time - think we should be able to make it along on the Helios with the Yepp at the back.
