On a lovely post work rumble to Gladhouse, I spied that the main road between Temple and Gorebridge is closed (so from Carrington you can get to Temple but not that way to Gorebridge).
Although this is on NCN 1, no diversion for cyclists is shown. Actually there is a straightforward if steep alternative through Temple

Yes I know the steepness of Temple. Lot of logging lorries out today on my cycle which was accomplished on a spesh Tricross with 28mm schwalbe marathon plus.tyres.. We took train to Stow, then headed on the wee road parallel to A7 which was glorious. Then A7 briefly then fArm road to brother shiels farm, then fArn track to Fala. This bit was rocky in stages but grassy in others Nota bene the decent to fala has three very steep speed bumps that would fire you over the handlebars if taken at speed. From fala onwards to Humbie hub. Lovely grub there then to pathead and edge head which was where we encountered the logging lorries. Then forth and down the old a68 into Dalkeith and esk bank. Went a bit nasty at Gilmerton but what can you do?

I'm meaning to try out the Fala track sometime. To see Fala Tower

I did spot a cylindrical doocot which is I think a rarity. But missed fala luggie tower.
Probably saw it as a ruin only. Skinny tyres no chance but galaxy or Tricross OK. The rocks near the top are a bit gnarly. There is a wee commemorative sign on a gate on the A7 side to a pilot who crash landed nea end of war at brother shiels. Mentioned somewhere maybe here before.

Where exactly is the closure, and which road is your steep alternative?

Went a bit nasty at Gilmerton but what can you do?
Avoid Drum St? Certainly if heading North, Lasswade Road is normally more pleasant for cycling on.
