    As with trains, when you have a substantial % of traffic moving with a relatively standard performance profile it often makes the best use of resources to provide a route specified for that traffic. Hence Goods Lines, Slow Lines, etc

    Thus if you have a substantial flow of cycle traffic, then a separate cycle traffic lane, ideally with the minimum of stop/ start at signals, grade separated crossings of major flows of pedestrian or motor traffic, 'merge' junctions.
