RBS Gogarburn: "visitors don't come by bike"

Visited Gogarburn for the first time this week - seems there's no visitor cycle parking there at all (and nowhere obvious for a railing or lamp-post to chain to for the day). I was a bit surprised, or was I just being naive..?

They only had regular staff parking, underground, which was a faff because I couldn't actually get in (no security badge/not signed in yet).

Ended up having to abandon my unlocked bike outside one of the Reception areas and watch it whilst waiting in the visitor seating area. Reception staff very polite but didn't seem to understand my surprise at there being no temp cycle parking (for staff on their first day, ad hoc visitors from other offices, and suchlike).

When large corporate campuses only expect visitors to use the visitor car park / taxi (or perhaps bus/tram?) it demonstrates we have a long way to go before Danish-style cycling is the norm...

Does anyone who commutes there regularly/has visited there before have a better suggestion for next time?
(Did I miss a suitable railing for future use? I'm hoping I missed something obvious that the Reception staff couldn't "officially" tell me about.)

    thanks for any advice!

Only been to the business school who have a bike rack outside. Perhaps they think that only those coming for conferences will be attending en velo?

Oh, that's probably the only bit of the campus I didn't try on my hunt for a railing or cycle racks.. I'll give that a shot (it has to be better than leaving my bike outside unlocked and just waiting for ages in Reception)... thank you for the suggestion!

There's railings round the two level car park you could use, but there are Gogarburners on here who will probably be very keen to find a proper solution.

So, I went by the business school but couldn't spot any bike rack, only free standing 'try it free for two hours' cycle scheme bikes on their own kickstands.. that was to the right of the entrance (at the roundabout where the coaches pick up).

There are without doubt Sheffield stands accessible to visitors at two places on the Gogarburn campus. The first set are behind Gogarburn House, on the approach to the gym. The second set are on the footpath that leads between the Nursery and the Conference Centre. Neither are particularly convenient for the main building.

The lack of visitor bike parking has been raised with the facilities managers.

    ...apparently ;-)

"Neither are particularly convenient for the main building."

No doubt they'd look untidy by the front door...

@chdot - most bike-borne visitors won't come to the front door. A gaggle of nextbikes is tolerated there. The place that needs visitor bike parking is at the east end of the building near the bus stop, tram stop, A8 path and Gogar Station Road. A futher gaggle of nextbikes exists there too, and it would be a good place for a visitor rack.

"it would be a good place for a visitor rack"

I bow to your greater wisdom.

Greenroofer - I found them (both suggestions)!
Worst places I've ever experienced for visiting cyclists only visiting as hoc, but they definitely exist.

Would have *never* likely found them without posting here (I wouldn't have tried the nursery by venturing beyond the barriers) and I didn't go as far as Gogarburn House on the first visit since I arrived at the other side of the area near the 35 bus stop.

In short, totally agree with this: " The place that needs visitor bike parking is at the east end of the building near the bus stop, tram stop, A8 path and Gogar Station Road." ... That's the obvious/natural end for it, and if they've not realised it, the multiple Staff Ambassadors scratching their heads at my query need to be pointing people to them more knowingly....

    Anyway: a big thanks!

@chdot - agreed, but it's definitely a good place to start...
