Hi, excuse a possibly naive question, but trying to find when exactly (days/hours) do they close the loop road around Arthur's seat for the car traffic?

This site https://www.historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/places/holyrood-park/prices-and-opening-times/, for example, states it's Sundays only, but I have a feeling that I saw the road closed on weekdays as well

Many thanks for any help with clarifying

If by the 'loop road', you mean the High Road up to Dunsapie Loch, I don't think it's ever closed to cars in summer unfortunately - not in a scheduled way anyway. They close (parts of) Queen's Drive on Sundays as scheduled on the link.

Odd kind of 'park' if you ask me

Not completely sure, been a while since I was around there regularly, but the times on the HES website seem accurate.

Hi, that's the road I mean - some maps call it just the Queen's Drive for the whole loop... It's good for training hill climbing in the city center - just feels more comfortable when closed for traffic

It's closed on Spring evenings to give the toads a chance to get it on without the threat of death from motor vehicles, but I think their mating season is passed now.

@AlexPro2015 - maps calling it Queen's Drive all the way round would be wrong. The link in your original post mentions the High Road specifically.

'just feels more comfortable when closed for traffic'
I agree - shame it happens so rarely & in a unadvertised way.

Must admit I thought it was often closed in the evening.

    Must be worth a campaign...

5-9 (or all night??) 'summer' months?

@Murun Buchstansang - I believe that by High Road they mean the stretch that goes around the Holyrood Palace perpendicular to Queen's Dr, i.e. it gives access to both Dynamic Earth and Holyrood car parks.
Additionally, it can't be the road leading up to Dunsapie Loch as it sits behind the gate that they close to shut the road

For what it's worth, I just doublechecked Google Maps and it's labeled Queen's Drive all the way around

@chdot - that's a good shout... ERC parents usually organise hill climbs for juniors at least once a week, so a few parents have to stay at the bottom of the road and give upcoming cars a heads up to watch out for kid cyclists

Like chdot said - I think it's normally closed at dusk by the park rangers.

'I believe that by High Road they mean the stretch that goes around the Holyrood Palace perpendicular to Queen's Dr, i.e. it gives access to both Dynamic Earth and Holyrood car parks.'

From this, I see they label the uphill one-way section (The) Queen's Drive (which I have to say I was not aware of) but they label the High Road as the road section above Duddingston Low Road.

    https://www.historicenvironment.scot/media/2630/holyrood-park-map.pdf

Which makes the 'Sunday road closures' section from the 'Opening Times' web page even more inaccurate than it first appeared.

High Road is definitely the one way road between St Margaret's Loch, past Dunsapie Loch and down to the roundabout nearish Pollock Halls.

The part of Queens Drive (High Road) commencing uphill from St Margaret's Loch is nearly always shut when I pass by at 5.45pm on a Tuesday. No idea what happens other days.
