Does anyone know the bike carriage situation on the Ardrossan to Glasgow route? How many spaces? Bookable? etc. There may be a few of using the route on a Sunday afternoon in June.

Probably a Class 380 train, so I think you'd have two sections each with with a row of tip-up seats. Careful bike arrangement might get six or more bikes onboard.

Tulyar and Kaputnik will know more.

I took the train from Glasgow central to ardrossan habour on Friday as was running late for the boat after a wrong turn. It was a class 380 same as north Berwick trains. So it has the area where can lean many bikes if conductor not being difficult.

If you are coming from the boat, there may be many bikes on the boat so may not get on but you can always cycle 5 miles up the road and get a train that does not stop at the habour. I cycled back from ardrossan but looking at number of bikes on the boat may have been too many, this was a sunday mind, on a weekday would imagine many less.

If not getting on at the harbour and the train goes to the harbour may be best to if a boat has come in but that is just a guess. Like getting on at Waverley on a busy train even though Haymarket nearer etc

Observations of the midday 'boat train'(used to be 14.15 Ardrossan Harbour) are that they are 50% of seats filled and 10-11% of passengers with bikes. Typically 12-14 bikes up to 18 reported.

After POP2 I think 34 bikes went back via Carstairs on a 380

As far as I recall the train isn't usually too packed to reasonably expect to get bikes on... but (again from memory) don't underestimate the rush hour crush. I'd think twice before aiming at a train at 5pm-5.30pm (ish) leaving Glasgow - and similarly would be cautious of whichever arrives in Glasgow a bit before 9am.

I'd be very surprised if it were bookable.
