I didn't realise the park was closed this morning for running events. (Nor did the cyclist in front of me.)

So I thought it might be useful to have a thread that lets everyone know about park closures.

I'll get the ball running by pointing out it's the marathon tomorrow. So London/Regent Road down to Longniddry will be off limits at various times.

There's another event this Sunday (4th June): Subway Helping Hearts Family 5K Fun Run.

The poster I saw said from 12pm. So the park road is likely to be closed from at least late morning to late afternoon.

For me the big issue is when the Innocent path is closed. For some family trips this is THE safe way to get across the city - making the difference between whether we do the trip or not. Pathetic, but a fact of life.

I encountered an event at the bottom of the Innocent tunnel the other day... which meant 15 minutes to do a section of path which would normally take only a couple. Really irritated me.

Not the fault of the running event of course - but that's beside the point.

If anyone has information about closures of this path it would be good to tweet/post about it. You never know... awkward questions about how to get to the East with kids might remind the Council (and everyone else) about how rubbish it is to have only one possible decent route.

Meadowbank Terrace is now closed for 7 weeks (the bit between London Road and the mini-roundabout). Coned off but pavements may be ok for a 100 yard push of the bike. Otherwise, exit from the east end of the park is via Queens Park Ave > Meadowbank Cres > Parsons Green Terr. Not going to be pretty at rush hour.

Edinburgh Ironman is on 2 July. Must be a big event as there's road closures even for the cycling. See http://eu.ironman.com/~/media/eacedd7897aa46fcaa413e00190d1947/imed%20access%20leaflet%202017%2004%2024.pdf

The pride march is on this Saturday, so there might be closures between the parliament and Holyrood Gait.

    One of the replies:

"but bikes at 50 mph plus is ok, great job"

There's a thread somewhere on here where people discuss how difficult it is to reach 50mph on a long straight downhill, with various suggestions of the best place to achieve it. And someone apparently thinks it's commonplace in Central Park which is, I think, almost completely flat.

Hmm, if you look at the details it's going completely car free except for the roads which they are keeping open. You'll be able to drive from east side to west side at several points still.

I'm sure it's still a great thing and given the responses presumably the roads they are banning cars from were totally unsuitable in the first place.

Ironman on again on Sunday, road closures, including Holyrood Park, seem to be same as last year: http://eu.ironman.com/triathlon/events/emea/ironman-70.3/edinburgh/road-access.aspx#axzz5JRcMmw4s
