"and is not the CEC's response to the commemoration event today"
Perhaps, but it's at the bottom of the BBC story too -

CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 15years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

It's a lawyer's line I'm afraid. They won't admit the entire thing is unsafe, but if they say they made every effort to make people aware of the risks........
Horrible, I know but it's how a corporate would work, and the council are doing exactly the same.
Event was poignant and well organised. I found the whole thing very moving. The piper was also fitting. And all our bells at the end.
THe phrase in the articles is the one fro before. The council need to release an actual response and I think Adam McVey is looking for acceleration of the safer routes
The Scottish Sun said about 100 turned out. I would have said more than that but didn't count.
I arrived early on foot, so did a quick count before things started. There were at least 150 on the pavement (with more arriving) before the cycling group arrived from Charlotte Sq.
I'd estimate 250-300
100 people in a public space looks like absolutely nothing.
A city shouldn't have to come with a government health warning.
I was towards the back of the group by Rutland Street and didn't see the whole gathering, but yes, I think there were easily more than 100 people there.
I didn't expect bagpipes, but they were a perfectly judged addition to the sombre mood.
"I'd estimate 250-300"
Agree (I was up a ladder).
I counted 180+ people in one of @chdot's photos, with quite a few people out of shot, or just not countable because they're at the back.
"... I think Adam McVey is looking for acceleration of the safer routes."
Yes, but what really concerns me from the general mood music coming in CEC statements following this tragedy, is that these safer routes will be INSTEAD of making the key routes (eg. Princes Street through to Haymarket) safe. They just seem to have closed minds. There is space if only it was considered possible to take a bit of road and a bit of pavement that is basically used to maximise outside drinking opportunities. They could start with the horrendous junctions on the tram route, Waverley/Sth St David, the Mound, Lothian Road/Queensferry St, and Haymarket.
"Emotional scenes marking last week's tragedy. Cycling needs commitment to sustained improvements to make it as safe as it can & should be. https://t.co/ixoepCibhz"
A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising this morning event. Having the police involved ensured that there were no issues with traffic, they were friendly and courteous as usual, special mention goes to the motorcyclist who turned his engine off during the silence.
It was a shame they couldn't stop the westbound traffic even for a minute though.
This is a terrible video taken from my bike camera which I was holding- it captures @ih's excellent short speech and how moving that one minute's silence was. An extremely sad day.
Thanks for link SRD I am in one of the pictures and look to be concentrating very hard to get over the junction,
Thanks too to hankchief who took time in the midst of all this to give me nine pink grapefruit gels, my favourite.
And to bike train who gave me yet another flag to cycle round Edinburgh with.
It feels good to be part of this wee community
I recognised a few faces amongst those gathered this morning, but after being moved to tears nearly I wasn't for hanging around afterwards, and quietly melted away towards Haymarket.
As I approached the junction to Roseburn, a Rabbie's tour bus was first in line at the lights. I felt an unusual pang of both anger and fear, which was probably mostly unjustified.
On Spokes FB
"
Great credit to the people on the CCE Forum who organised today's event at Shandwick Place.
"
Has anyone heard about this meeting the minister is having with campaigners yet? I assume that will be Spokes
"I assume that will be Spokes"
NEEDS to be PoP too.
Meeting is Thursday.
I've started another thread to collect the combined wisdom of CCE. Please do feed in your thoughts.

The family of a medical student killed by a minibus while cycling in Edinburgh have received compensation three years after the tragic accident.Zhi Min Soh, 23, died after she was run over by a driver of a Rabbie’s Tours 16-seater minibus just beyond the junction between Princes Street and Lothian Road on May 31, 2017.
The insurers of the minibus denied liability stating that the close proximity between Zhi Min Soh and their policyholder’s vehicle did not demonstrate negligence on the part of the driver.
A case was raised in Scotland’s highest civil court, The Court of Session, and while there was no formal admission of liability, the insurers agreed to compensate the family for their grief and sorrow at losing the bright, young woman.
At the time, there was much speculation that it was Zhi Min Soh’s bicycle wheel which had become trapped in a tram rail causing her to lose her balance.
While the cause of her fall has not been determined, the driver did fail to stop in time and collided with the student, dragging her underneath the bus.
I wrote to the top road cop in Scotland on actual paper to report the drivers of several minibus tours for breaking the The Public Service Vehicles (Conduct of Drivers, Inspectors, Conductors and Passengers) Regulations 1990 by speaking to passengers while driving on the A9.
Not so much as a reply.
“While the cause of her fall has not been determined”
STILL??!
one comment on the facebook page from someone saying it is wrong to say there were no eye witnesses - I'm astonished there apparently weren't
STILL??!
"The investigation as to whether there have been any Health and Safety breaches and also whether there is a basis for the Lord Advocate to instruct a Fatal Accident Inquiry at his discretion is ongoing and may take some considerable time"

But why?
Presumably not enough staff?
