Amazing time-lapse footage of @HMSQnlz leaving the wall. Next phase is to anchor up before proceeding to pass under the Forth Bridges.

CityCyclingEdinburgh was launched on the 27th of October 2009 as "an experiment".
IT’S TRUE!
CCE is 16years old!
Well done to ALL posters
It soon became useful and entertaining. There are regular posters, people who add useful info occasionally and plenty more who drop by to watch. That's fine. If you want to add news/comments it's easy to register and become a member.
RULES No personal insults. No swearing.

Hot tar has been spilled from a vehicle on the northbound carriageway - a sweeper is on its way to clean it up. Lane 1 is closed meanwhile.

No danger/threat then(?)
I'm going with the paper airplane theory.

Those heading to S Queensferry to watch HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier set out - be aware, traffic is v heavy + you may not get access
"
Went through Dalmeny - traffic was non existent :-)
I cycled out to Society Road for about 20.15, and went a bit past Hopetoun House. The amount of traffic along the coast was very considerable indeed; I took my little purple recumbent instead of the torpedo because I suspected I might otherwise get stuck. Good views of the big boat.
Came back along the NCN and was thoroughly out-powered by a guy in trainers, riding a slightly-better-than-BSO. I was also giving my new HRM a whirl. Topped out at 170bpm, and averaged about 116 over 28 miles.
Queen Elizabeth has now cleared the Forth Bridge.

Sentences that should only be read after morning coffee, when fully aware of the context.
Perfectly justifiable that the bridge was closed for this, and for the period of time.
What's not justified is the amount of notice that was given, especially as this had been planned well in advance. Mind you I just left my bike at work and got the train, so just minor annoyance.
I must admit to being a little disappointed at the timing, I'd have thought a bigger deal would have been made of it, and a daylight setting sail. I'd planned to take the wee fella down to the beach to watch it go past. As it was it was too late for me too.

Maybe the passage under the bridges was tide-dependent? Or maybe it just took that long for the XP computers to boot up?
QE had to wait for low tide in order to pass underneath the bridges. Even then they had to lower one of the masts.
Tides are in (roughly)12 hour cycles, presumably key thing was getting it out of Rosyth in daylight.
A week would have made a lot of difference to the number of people seeing it move down the Forth in the light.
However, it does look remarkably ugly!
nit so often we make things taht big these days. we should make more fuss when it tries to get back in?
From some of the comments on the FB page showing a stream of it nosing out of the dock you'd think it was about to be filled with venomous snakes then dropped into the surface of Venus, not just taken out to sea for some sea trials.
