Some enlargement of existing docks today

Bristo Sq 24 -> 36
Canonmills 7 -> 10 (I think)Wonder how they've done that? Not much room at Canonmills, so perhaps this is the virtual docking option starting to operate?
Very handy anyway - I've had dock anxiety a couple of times heading towards Canonmills with only had 2 spaces showing on the map. Think it used to be 6 spaces now showing as 9.

Porty gone from 7 to 13 as well, it looks like.

At Brunswick St, the enhancement has been made by adding some docks facing the other side under the trees

Thanks. Had a look at Canonnmills last night and it's the same there. Looks like the original docks were double-spaced, which allows for doubling the numbers if needs be.

Beryl, Angela, Bailey and Macinnes all docked manually at Waverley COurt. Juan is moving around the docking station nwith red light flashing and helmet on the ground (helmet gone when came back from lunch but juan's light still flashing)

Victoria Park dock removed due to oafish vandalism thereof.

Canonmills now showing as 8 docks on the app, confusingly.
Posted 6 years ago # -
The total number of docks at each site is being fudged a lot in the data feeds. It might say 5 bikes 2 spaces but actually have 8 bikes 2 spaces...
Or Waverley Court that says 3 bikes 0 spaces when it's actually 4 bikes 0 spaces
It's either a weird bug or deliberate obfuscation, as they have a separate means of marking out of order bikes - they appear as an extra ⚠ count in the app

Certain cafe owner on Facebook complaining. Of anti silverknowes discrimination. Picture of two bikes next to surf board.

In 2015 I tweeted that the Loch Leven Larder was a lovely cafe but was really missing some bike racks.
I went back this weekend to find they (not the council) had installed 2 logs with sections carved out, giving them capacity for 20 bikes. Guess what... they were full on an autumnal Saturday.
Sadly my 2016 tweet about the Boardwalk Cafe didn't elicit the same response...

@hankchief, yes, funny that. The logs would work for the prom man as he could take them with him if he wanted to open another cafe etc. Sheffields also probably require you to own the land?

Takeaway bike parked all alone by a bench under the trees on the dead end path past St Bernard's Well with no rider in sight this afternoon.

More than 20 bkes in George square, ah wait, mthat was in Glasgow earlier today. No one using them.

Is it as windy in west?
Posted 6 years ago # -
Wind was squally in the centre of Glasgow but bit stronger maybe on my commute home.

Just spent the weekend in Bath - lots of hire bikes, no evidence of anyone using at all !
It should be bike friendly, in truth its got a lot of very fast roads in the centre, outside of the few pedestrian streets.

Bath is nice but traffic is hell. I once was given a lift in a motor from Wells - 16 miles away, [think Bishop of Bath and Wells) and pal left one hour for trip - We were catching train to London. Had to get out in middle of Bath and run through traffic to get to station to catch train.

[think Bishop of Bath and Wells)
I can only think of the baby-eating Bishop of Bath and Wells.

Noticed a new docking station on my way home this evening - by the public lavvies at the top of Bruntsfield Links. It's the glamour that really attracts people to cycling...

Bit of docking. Bit of cottaging. Spot of shopping around Bruntsfield. Just another Saturday over that way?

"Docking"
Posted 6 years ago # -
First attempt to use them to speed up the journey to work didn't work. Failed undocks at two successive stations with just the "something went wrong" message as explanation.
Posted 6 years ago # -
Maybe they will introduce a helpful assistant to the app?
Bicycle Clippy: "It looks like you're trying to hire a bicycle."

After this morning's failure to allow me to ride to work, there was one quick undock at lunchtime, of a bike which turned out to be unusable as people have been using the seat clamp lever like a wingnut. Second bike was also quickly allocated and was usable and the app was very quick to tell me when I'd stowed it after use. Third bike has yet to tell the server to tell the app to tell me that it's successfully re-docked, thirty minutes after stowing it, so I'll have to manually start another thread with the helpdesk to tell them that its second gear is skittery.

Have just started playing with the data for October, hoping to build it into some cool web.gl stuff we've got at work.
Things that entertained me are the failed re-docking or mistakes in the data.
