indeed - almost all the uses I would have involve using it from where I live.

I have normally non cycling friends who live in Canonmills, apparently it's great for getting home. But they haven't yet taken one back up the hill.

Bike share map, now shows the area covered as 17km2, and around 400bikes available.

Most of the new ones are in pretty densely populated areas - Marchmont, Dalry, East London Street, MacDonald (sic) Road, Leith Walk...

LOL at Dalry Road being a "destination"...

"Unfortunately due to ongoing vandalism we will be suspending Victoria Park cycle hire point. We apologise for any inconvenience. We are looking for an alternative location and are open to suggestions. Thanks for your ongoing support and feedback. "

I wonder why? Is this a dock in a dark park rather than being on a roadside with people passing?

Certainly in our neck of the woods the residential aspect seems to be increasing in prominence. The Dundee Terrace one certainly has nothing destination-y about it. Saw the two docks at Dalry today, fair enough the one by the Co-op is where the local shops are but the one at Lidl/Dalry P.S.? There's nothing much there except the Lidl itself and tenements.

Does anyone understand why there isn't a dock at Haymarket station?

The Victoria Park thing comes as no surprise whatsoever. It was hugely optimistic to think the bikes could survive there.

@piosad: they’ve said they are having trouble finding a suitable spot for a dock. They can’t use inside the station because of the Abelio hire bikes.

I wasn't at work today so decided to use one of my day vouchers to try Just Eat Bikes again. I cycled down from Old Town to the Royal Mail Depot on Russell Road without incident, albeit remembered how quickly the bikes spin out in top gear. The cycle back was rather sweatier than I had anticipated so I ended up changing my T-shirt before going out again. Rather than giving me back the bike I had docked 5-10 minutes previously, the system kept giving me a bike with a jammed quick-release saddle which I couldn't work out how to report. I then ended up walking to a different dock to pick up another bike, which was one with the new quick release mechanism. The remainder of that cycle went fine. I'm now debating whether to just walk home after my work Christmas do or to grab a bike to cycle back up into Old Town again. I've had a few drinks but am ok to cycle, but I don't have gloves or a hat with me and it feels cold outside.

Do you want me to come and get you?

There's an excellent wedge of space on the pavement right underneath the vertical 'Haymarket' sign, right beside the north entrance to the station. Might 'spoil the view' out of those big glass windows from the concourse, of course...surely Abellio wouldn't object to that...

@IWRATS thanks, but I made it home ok. It took some time for the system to decide that I was in fact at the dock opposite Akva but it eventually let me borrow a bike with a stiff, but just about adjustable, seat adjustor. The cycle home was fine but I'd have been better off if I'd taken some gloves.

"which I couldn't work out how to report"

IF the app acknowledges that you've returned the bike, there's a (report) but in the acknowledgement screen. If you don't get that screen, just message the operators.

Sometimes the app is still saying "getting you a bike" two hours after completing a journey.

I suppose my comment about destinations was more from a personal perspective as a suburb dweller. Currently my nearest rack would require me to either cycle or catch the bus to it which defeats the point. Once I am in town I don't often need a bike and if I was going to need one then I would take it with me.

However I will be making an effort to use my voucher before it expires.

@wingpig thanks! As I say I failed to spot any kind of report option at the time but will look closely next time.

I still have ten free codes available.

I've heard that quite a lot of the virtual-dock bikes were blown over by the wind today. It wasn't even that windy. Probably due to the enormous rear mudguard.

Someone has been in touch saying they have found one of the bikes and can they dock it without being a user. Does anyone know?

Pretty sure anyone can dock them. The other day I docked one, only for another to fall out, which of course I redocked

The person making the inquiry has docked without any problems.

The mat marking the virtual dock outside the Comey Bank Waitrose is lifting away.

Had my first go yesterday evening coming home from work Christmas dinner — Summerhall to Dundee Terrace so flat, but positive impressions. Liked the control and braking. The third gear is higher than my usual cruising gear on the commute, so no concerns at least on the flat. Thumbs up!

About half the bikes at Brunswick Place had the large ‘London’ seat post clamp this morning

Glad to see lots more of them being fitted

I passed the location of the new, non-docking rental point on Gibson Terrace by the side of the Sainsbury's yesterday afternoon. No Just Eat Cycles were present. It is marked as being active on the app, but surely even if it had been a busy day (despite being wet?) there should at least have been two 'delimiter' bikes present for parking in between.

Mr fimm and I were remarking that the two Dalry Road points (one outside where Maplins was and one next to the Lidl) are quite close together... do we suppose they'll be amalgamated if they don't see enough use?

They're our nearest hire points but are too far from the flat to be worth the hassle. I can't see mayself ever using one but if we ever get any near Tynecastle then that might change.

I had an upgraded seatpost clamp from Leith Links on Tuesday morning which was fine. One on the way home decided to loosen as I went along Queen Street, but I was able to tighten it using the knurled wheel at some traffic lights, which you couldn't do on the old ones unless you had special star-shaped fingers. Another upgraded clamp this morning, which was also properly adjusted. I've also now confirmed which trainers work best in the wet with the rubbish slippy pedals.
