That's the sort of non-kosher hire that I don't really find offensive. Assuming they returned it to the immediate vicinity of a dock when they were done, I can't think of a better use of a stray hire bike.

There's currently a bike in every dock! 316 bikes available right now (up from 68 a few weeks ago) so hopefully we'll start seeing new docks shortly

I thought for a moment that you meant every dock was full, which would be its own problem!

The docks in Dalry don't seem to have lasted - I think the on near the Aldi isn't there any more and the one near the Coop (in front of what was Maplins) only had a couple of bikes the last time I noticed.

I do occassionally see the bikes being ridden rond Gorgie, which is good to see.

Word on the street is that the outfit doing the assembly and maintenance lost the contract over the seat clamp issue.

Is that the same outfit who do the bike redistribution?

That was the issue I found when I used the system in December. Large areas around me without any spaces to dock. The helpline were very good at opening virtual spaces though.

    Some decent changes today:

You can now choose which bike to unlock! I've only managed to try this at a virtual dock but you're now presented with a list of all available bikes and then get to choose which you'd like to take.

Some docks have also had a capacity boost (I know of Fountainbridge and Portobello, I imagine there's others) since they've become hybrid docks where there are a certain number of physical spaces and a set number of virtual spaces (Fountainbridge seems to be 10 physical + 4 virtual).

Sounds good! Look forward to testing the new functionality when I use my voucher from the commuter challenge.

Saw a Just Eat bike on Saturday paused at the Stockbridge market - with a child seat fitted. I assume temporarily.

Never seen that before! I imagine it would be a bit of a pain to fit with the solid mudguards.

If anyone is interested in how the scheme is doing I have some stats here: https://publictransport.io/cyclehire/ showing things like bike availability and trips per hour etc - made for myself so I do apologise about it not being great!

    Nice stats!
I've updated the graph of total number of bicycles available (taken daily at 12 noon) against time. Seeing a big rise since February.

Very nice! There's more than 400 available right now - I imagine that would be the most ever?

Can't be much longer till an expansion surely.

It's nice to see so many of the bikes back in action. I would say that the bike numbers on the Stations web page don't bear any resemblance to reality, however, at least for the 4 or 5 stations nearest me today.

The other night cycling back across the meadows later on at night all three of the bikes I saw also riding from east side of the meadows to bottom of MMW were Just eat Bikes.

Has anyone spotted a Just Eat delivery person using a Just Eat Bike?

Just check to see if there's a JustEat account in the name of D Macaskill and there's your culprit right there.

I found about 10 bikes at the Meadows the other day which had dominoed. Probably in the wind, but possibly through more nefarious means.

I discovered that they beep a few times when you lift them back up, as if to say thanks.

They always domino when it’s windy. I was sitting in Starbucks opposite the Colinton Road hire point on Sunday watching them sway and topple in the ‘breeze.’

I have noticed a number of burgher bikes which have "fallen over" at various hire points in recent days, and I do have to wonder whether it is really the wind, or whether some people are finding it a jolly jape to push them over?

Arguably a good reason for adding proper docking stations to more hire sites? (Also the fact that locking and unlocking the lock by phone/hand can sometimes be a bit fiddly and time consuming) The bikes are fairly robust but there is still a risk of damage when they hit the ground.

Also, now that it is officially spring, it must surely be about time for the newer dockless hire points to get their proper "park here" mats installed at least, so as to be more obvious?

It definitely correlates with windy days. Although, of course, correlation doesn't prove anything. Maybe gales make people more mischievous.

19 spaces opened today at Newkirkgate "beside Queen Victoria monument"

Good prominent spot, exactly what they need and why I think that Leith Walk has so far been a hotspot of activity for the scheme.

I hope it doesn't cause issues with clutter especially with the plaza used by pop up stalls quite often

Passed them at about 1pm today and there was only one bike in the dock - so they seem to already be getting some good usage.
