Pretty sure the fallen bikes were showing as available on the app, but that the green light advertising availability only came on when righted. Bit of a heave to get the bikes up - they are not light and they seem to be very front-heavy.

Presume only available if you actually ride it straight away.

This is interesting, as if it added to my account for later use (maybe with a reasonable expiry), I'd happily make the trade. Much less so if it's just 'now you get to use this bike that had toppled instead of the one next to it'. Selfish of me, but...

“if it added to my account for later use“

Well it would be an incentive for you (I mean others) to tip bikes over…

It’s a bold assumption that it’s not me doing all the tipping already ;)

    Good point though.

And here's me uprighting fallen bikes like a good upstanding non-Voi-using citizen, and getting nothing for it in return!

Maybe once the zone allows bikes to be cycled to Penicuik I'll be interested.

JUST ANNOUNCED: Voi bikes are hitting the Southside. The e-bike hire scheme is expanding into Roseburn, Bruntsfield, Morningside and the uni's King’s Buildings. From tomorrow Voi bikes will be gradually introduced to newly designated parking spots, increasing the fleet to 480 bikes.

Voi say they will monitor demand, with a further 120 bikes ready to roll out to connect more commuters, students and visitors. Some stats in the three months since launch:
75,000 trips by nearly 14,000 riders, covering over 200,000 kilometres in total.

Looking forward to seeing where the parking zones are! Hoping that little jink in the line by Blackford Pond is for a parking zone as that'd be super handy for me!

Is there a minimum time that a bike needs to be on its side in order for someone to reap the reward of uprighting it again?

I could forsee some people gaming the system otherwise.

Very little bike redistribution going on at the moment. Lots of the parking areas have been marked full, which is very frustrating as it can be a few minutes cycle/more minutes walk back and you have to keep paying. Also lots of south side spots with zero bikes available.

Reminded me of this article about the challenges redistributing in London. I haven't yet considered just taking the bike home like someone on the article... https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/mindthegap/2010/09/this_photo_ive_just_taken.html

Almost like they need dynamic pricing. It could be a model for congestion-charging LOL

Does anyone know a way to tell whether a bike at the parking spot is one of the smaller or larger models? I sometimes need the larger one due to the larger basket but near as I can tell there's no way to know in advance.

Yeah, that would be useful. Mrs N can only manage the smaller bikes

At one point I'd thought they had added it - there's a wee photo of a bike now in the top right of the card when you select a pin on the map. But the image shown is always the Explorer 4 rather than the Lite, which as someone a bit comically tall for the Lite is a downer particularly when reserving. Heck, doing this in the pin icons would be ideal too...

Lots at KB which seems odd for early morning in holidays.

    Is there accommodation there?

    Is there accommodation there?

Aye, although not a huge amount. I think the two buildings in the north west corner are student accommodation. There's also some new purpose-built student flats at the south end of Mayfield Road.

Suspect the large number of bikes there at the moment is more likely due to it being on the edge of the zone and having quite a bit of space for Voi to stick them without worrying about causing obstructions.

    Thanks

Suggests they are actually moving bikes

Perhaps need to stock rail stations more often.
