Hi
Bit random this post, but does anyone know of any gyms in Edinburgh that do not require a membership? ie just pay to use when you want? I am after a weights gym ideally.

You can pay as you go to get into the University's gym at Pleasance, but you have to be signed in by a member, and it's £7 a time.

Not been personally.
Can vouch for the Edinburgh Uni gym being a very good 'full service' gym (pool, cardio, weights, squash, classes included) and membership is cheap

Bob,
It largely depends on frequency of your "one off" visits.
Any more than once a week and it's barely worth doing a PAYG gym when you can get monthly membership at Pure Gym (for example) for £25 and cancel whenever you want.
If you are paying £5-7 a pop at a PAYG, well.....you do the maths.

Edinburgh Leisure do PAYG and are fairly reasonably priced. The free weights areas vary in size though and can be busy particularly at peak times though the same seems to be true of most/all gyms? The weights area in Pure Gym is usually packed even at 8am on a weekday! The Pleasance has a dedicated free weights area in the basement where you can generally get on equipment when you want
