Today I came across 8 new rumble strips on the Roseburn Path.

Two sets of four - either side of the steps down from Coltbridge.

I'd like to congratulate the council for finding just another way to make cycling a bit less comfortable.

Let's hope they took the funding for this anti-cyclist infrastructure out of the active travel budget.

    Proper tactiles or Magdalene Monoblock?

    Oh God. No.

Don't worry, just speed up, and you'll be past them before you even notice!

PS On a serious note, I don't know what rumble strips - here or elsewhere - are meant to make me do.

If I slow down, it's worse. If I speed up it's better.

The only thing they seem to do is add discomfort and, on occasions, reduce the ability to control the bike. (By reducing contact with the road.)

    Proper tactiles or Magdalene Monoblock?

Comparable to those on downhill in Holyrood park.

I believe that the school nearby had some justified complaints about speeding cyclists at that spot.

    Something needed to be done.

    This is something.

    Problem solved.

To be honest, I hardly noticed any 'rumble' when I rode over them. They've also painted "look both ways" at the bottom of the steps.
Shame the money wasn't spent on finishing the installation of the missing street light a few metres away.

Is that the area where there are already big SLOW signs painted on the path?

Yes, they have put the rumble strips right next to the SLOW signs. As far as rumble strips go, they are less disagreeable than the bricks they installed in the path near Craigleith.

Rode over these yesterday, they are just a layer of paint and will wear down. Gave the bike a buzz rather than a thunk thunk thunk.

Given proximity to school I don't think they are unjustified, and they are certainly less of a problem than the brick ones up at Craigleith or at Magdalene.

There is also a prominent "look both ways" painted in big letter at the foot of the steps.

Scope for vegetation removal to improve sight lines.
