The recumbent has a happy combination of two B&M linetec rear lights; one dynamo, one battery. However, I want to remove the rack, so need something different.

Anyone used the secula? Brightness comparison, etc? The linetec is at the lower limit of brightness that I feel happy with in bad weather.

I see Schmidt also have a rear light available, which is very spendy but looks neat.

    Thoughts?

I can usually break a rear light in under a year on a Brompton. I think there is more vibration than on bigger wheels.

I've had a couple of bikes with Schmidt rear lights for more than a year and a half and they both still work fine.

The light doesn't have a reflector so you need to fit a separate one or it's not legal.

@WFB - It may be the folding action contributing to failure, jarring the light on parking and again on unfolding.

There is a large capacitor in mine, that broke free, however this could be soldered back in place, with a jumper of wire to add a bit of flex to the system.

    Seems to have held...

I know, you can do that with Brompton's own one, but B&M don't appear to be screwed together.

I have a Secula Plus which lost a spade connector from the PCB. Rose Bikes cheerfully replaced but I still have the original and short of smashing have been unable to determine a way to prise the lens off to access the PCB for repair.

The supercaps in the Seculites have stayed put (unlike the Lumotec front light), with the only longevity problems being the BZP fixing-bolt and the mysterious access clip.

Happy with my mudguard-mounted Seculites Plus.

+1, never had any issues with this particular light with about 4.5 years of use.
