Mrs G (Garto remember never Gembo) was recently set this question - What road signs have a grey background? (Clue, see article in this month's psychologist about driverless cars)

I suppose the ones painted on the road surface sometimes have a grey background.

@iwrats, like your thinking but these signs are upright, perpendicular to the road, metallic

The only one I can think of is when you are leaving a 20mph zone and the National Speed Limit applies thereafter. The circular sign is on a grey background.
Of course, there are other kinds where the sign iself is greyed out, but they have a white background.
Do red signs with white writing, so beloved of road works contractors, look grey to people with red-green colourblindness?

Any sign up against a dark sky?
I have to admit I cheated & checked the HC. Can't really see any that have a proper grey background, TBH.Posted 6 years ago # -
Final clue, involves following SatNav to the letter

Are they facing the correct way?

I saw one today - it's on the A1 approaching Edinburgh, where it informs readers that For Edinburgh Zoo Take The Bypass as That's What It's For - has the wee thistle symbol on it so I initially thought it was a brown sign which had faded to grey.

The bypass is for going to the zoo?

It's maybe a special new sign for festival-time to reduce the number of people trying to squidge through the city centre.

Ah, maybe, special festival grey.
Wingpig wait til you next try to drive to prestwick. You now go off the M8 near Coatbridge and bypass Glasgow, coming back on to the M77 via the M73 south of the Clyde, so no going over thenkingston bridge anymore.
