Was on the library van getting a DVD (adventures of Baron Munchaussen, Uma Thurman got her break in that playing Botticelli's Venus). Spotted a map I had not seen, Basically it is the off road path from end of Lasswade Road to Roslin. Librarian insisted on giving me the other 6 maps I already have. I will bring them all to PY (inclement)/ barge (clement) Friday if anyone wants them

Ah. I accidentally went along a bit of that when trying to go out of the city to IKEA. I'd previously found the end of the Straiton Pond spur so had only come into the city.

I use this path quite often as a less stressful alternative to Burdiehouse Road(which does have some shared used sections to Straiton Pond but is not very relaxing and can be very muddy around the pond). If you follow it through to Roslin Glen then descend and climb out the other end you can link to the path that goes alongside Penicuik (can be a bit muddy after heavy rain)then it's a short climb out of Penicuik on the A701 to the West Linton moor road. So probably 60%-70% on paths and quiet roads.

@SEStran @CyclingEdin What about connecting E&W Midlothian? Bridge over Roslin Glen. Current options are few, steep and busy. @midgov @CyclingEdin @SpokesLothian"

Yes, a link from Loanhead to Bonnyrigg would be fantastic. The problem is getting across the North Esk.
Midlothian's Active Travel team is well aware of the problem, but I think their financial and staff constraints put our gripes in Edinburgh in a whole new light. Councillors, I'm told (not by the active travel team, I should possibly stress) generally just don't care about active travel.
Does anyone know if the old Lasswade viaduct (from Westmill Road to Kevock Road) to could be part of the solution? Not been down to it myself.
