Advance notice that the route through Scottish Widows at Morrison St is likely to be closed for a week or two from 8th August. Contractors are promising an alternative route will be signposted for pedestrians but no indication if that will also cover bikes. The alternative route will be on road and will involve either Semple St or Gardners Crescent.

Well, given Gardner's Crescent is no right turn at its North end, it could only work for bikes in one direction

So this path still has 'cyclist dismount' signs up, but there are some very narrow bits and, as we know, getting off and pushing your bike takes up a lot more space than sitting on it. So I usually sit on bike but push along with my foot, and even stop to let pedestrians past. But instead of maybe 'thank you' or just ignoring me completely, two separate people decided to point out the cyclist dismount signs to me this morning. I tried to explain my reasoning but they weren't interested. Grrrr.

Conflict by design I'm afraid. (Even before the works.)

Spokes did object to the original design, but no one listened.

Slightly related: the access between Atria and Aberdeen (formerly the SWIP building) is currently blocked-off whilst paving slabs are fiddled-about-with. Ladyfield (between the EICC Atria) is still open.
