They suddenly put these out on Tuesday overnight. We thought they were putting out some nice planters to get some greenery in the street. One outside flat helps to make Lawnmarket even more of a crush than already. Hordes squeezing by close mouth and street a mix of buses, taxis, Ferraris, rick shaws and scaffie wagons.

I hoped the city would use security threat as excuse to reduce cars in the city. Festival was best time to start as everyone is on foot (or bike if you actually want to go anywhere fast).

Instead we are just filling the city up with everything that was there before and adding more layers. Centre of city doesn't really function in any safe and civilised way at moment and these military style defences are ugly as sin.
Security gate is left open so any 'would be' evil person will have noted that.
Closing gate would mean they would have to pedestrianise and that can't happen as city needs a static line of cars on every street. These will be electric in future.
With tenement blocks around the fire service has to get in rapidly too so these gates will never be closed = waste of money. They do afford options for decoration though!
Blocking pavements with big wedges of steel - welcome to the heritage city.
