Anyone familiar with Vermarc garments? How accurate is their sizing?

I'm looking at potential candidates to replace my fast disintegrating cycling jacket. I've found an excellent deal on a lightly used Vermarc jacket which is 'large', warm, fits well, has water resistance and doesn't scream with logos. All to the good.

However, Vermarc's website claims Large equates to about 39-inches across the chest. I'm someplace around 40 at the moment. Close-fitting is OK. Race fit also acceptable. The 'Body paint' look is much less so.
