Not bicycle insurance but house. I'm moving, and so looking for some recommendations on policies that are bike-friendly (or bike friendlier). The provider that I could use via my work has a max value on replacment bikes of £500, which isn't of much help should the worst happen.

Prices have gone through the roof and my beloved touring bike is now over $4k to buy new. It wasn't that much when I bought it ten years ago. Even a Brompton is silly money now. You might say you don't need a fancy bike to ride to work every day, but under doctor's orders I'm not going to commute 20 miles a day on my Elephant Bike (or any other upright bike).

I'm currently with esure and before that I was with Axa - both were at the cheaper end on the price comparison websites and i found it was surprisingly relatively inexpensive to add bikes - although over £500 they need to be added as individual items.

@Arellcat - as chrisfl has suggested, my insurer also said £x for bicycles (can't remember offhand if it was £500 or £1000), but was happy to include them as named items. On household insurance I've had no daft lock restrictions (unlike dedicated policies), but I don't have

I suspect that the usual advice "make sure it has new for old cover" will be obvious to you, but may be helpful for other readers.

You could investigate Yellow Jersey insurance; they do home and travel insurance. I have no experience of their home cover - I used them for a trip to race (a triathlon) in Europe recently and was happy with the price I paid. (I didn't have to use their services, thankfully.)

I use Endsleigh Insurance, and like others have said, add the bike as a named item on home policy.

They were good when unfortunately my bike was stolen a few years back. They were happy to send me a cheque to buy a bike from Bike Coop of equivalent value to the online place they normally use, once I sent them a quote. This meant I actually got to try the bike before I bought it. They also paid out ~15% more than I had said the bike was worth - based on what I paid - not realising the price of new bikes had gone up.
