    You don't know if that person will be on a bike or in a car until you observe them (?)

    You don't know if a driver has seen you and is going to kill you or not until you observed them looking at you (?)

    @nedd1e_h I was thinking along the same lines but it's more like

    "driver has both seen and not seen you depending on if he hits you, in which case SMIDSY"

    The cat space is both there and not there until you remove the lid motorists and take a look.
