Yeah the fir trees are so frozen that they are brittle thus transporting them to all the usual spots - Dean Village, Stockbridge etc to be festooned in lights leads to them breaking. That is one story anyway.

    Here's the official one -

    "
the erection of stages and public address systems had been difficult as a result of the bad weather.

A city council spokeswoman said: "While we appreciate the disappointment this decision will cause, our top priority must be to ensure the safety of the public, contractors and employees."

    Doable,

    "then someone hits a switch"

    Ah,

That's when the riot starts -

No-one has put the lights on the trees.

The Marchmont tree has been there for a week, must go see if it has collapsed under the weight of snow yet.

I for one am happy that they've cancelled christmas, cos I'm a miserable b*****d

kaputnik: "I for one am happy that they've cancelled christmas, cos I'm a miserable b*****d " Isn't that why Rapha was invented? As I get a combo Christmas/birthday I get directed towards the Rapha site and asked if there's anything that I'd like. Seems like Rapha is the answer to buying cylists presents when you don't really know what cyclists want (not that I am complaining).

cyclingmollie - my mum birthday 25.12 - rubbish (christmas cards with p.s. Happy Birthday and vice versa). I know Rapha good but I suggest inventing summer birthday. like the queen (tho she has two birthdays and 364 christmasses as she is billionaire - her eldest son also charged Govt £500,000 or so for renting them Dartmoor Prison which I have noted for a rainy day)

I saw the cherry picker putting them up just after 5pm.

They should stick a couple of grit-bins underneath that tree, like giant salty presents.
