    Hi there hive mind.

Has anyone found an Edinburgh repair shop that can do helicoils or threaded inserts?

While removing a stubborn pedal i throughly stripped the crank threads out so am looking to be able to repair the threads as i havent been able to source an identical replacement!

Ive had this done to mortirbike while living down south but dont know of anywhere that can do this.

    Cheers!

Might try Ben at Kinetics in Glasgow, as he has proper machine tools for this sort of work.

If he does repairs as quickly as his sales, prepare yourself for a loooooong wait. Try Eastside Bikes, or Biketrax (used them both, very happy so far). If they can't help, maybe give car/motorbike garage a call?

If you can't find a bike shop to do this (they're - possibly reverse threaded! - imperial threads so a motorbike place likely won't have the kit) you don't need machine tools, just a vice, a cool head and a thread repair kit.

But at €220 it might be cheaper to buy new cranks....?

Yeah that is exactly my hesitance about using a 'normal' automotive repair type - it will be a reverse thread and as the internal of a pedal/crank is imperial I'd expect the outside to be too..

Yes, it's 9/16 inch 20 threads per inch. Maybe someone does it by post? Pretty specialised stuff.

I think this is what The Bicycle Works did to a bike I tried to build. The list of things they did to finish off my efforts was VERY long though so I can't remember exactly.
