This has been mentioned many times on CCE, but there are some illustrations I haven't seen before.

Edinburgh c/would have been very different. Mix of ThisIsEdinburgh inertia and objections.

Stuart goes on to reveal that, at one point, the Scottish Office had set aside 5 to 6 million pounds for stage one of Edinburgh’s motorway.

However, the city’s continued reluctance to proceed meant the money ended up going to Glasgow to build the Renfrew Motorway instead.

The St James Gyratory is just this plan in miniature.

Funny, I thought the same. I wonder if that's where the inspiration came from.

People who really want something always find a way to have it, even if it has to be symbolically.

The former roads planner who is a member of Murrayfield Community Council and who has been, um, resistant to the proposals in Roseburn was in the city planning dept in the 60s. Just saying...

Effectively the inner ring road exists informally at least.

London Road - Picardy Place - Queen Street - Lothian Road - Melville Drive - Queen's Drive

If you really wanted to, you could drive in an endless loop using that circulatory system.
