  1. Basically I need an online equivalent of something like the old LRT bus map, that I can highlight streets on.

I need to then link those streets for a charity bike ride.

    Anybody got any suggestions?

If it could then be transferred to a Garmin or GPS type thing to follow on the day even better, but the important bit is to identify all the streets I've been sponsored to ride, then plan a route between them!

    Thanks.

ECT The new SPOKES maps should help.

The Bike Station has a bundle - £6.95 each and tear proof, and waterproof too.

    Cheers

@Colin - I'm sure someone from Spokes will pop up soon and say very firmly 'water resistant' :-)

If you want to be fancy you could try Overpass Turbo - it's a bit hard to understand but sounds like it kind of fits your needs and allows export to PNG images and gpx:

    @ECT "Old School, barry!"

You were definitely brought up in Edinburgh then, not heard anyone from further afield use the term "barry" :-)

In fact it might even be peculiar to people of my/our vintage, my son and schoolfriends dont use it.

I think "barry" has gone the way of "radge / radgie".

Radge very much current where I live. Especially amongst radges.

I had never heard the word barry until I read Trainspotting, which was several years after moving to Edinburgh. Radge is definitely more common.

  10. Cheers folks.Managed to get Google Maps of all things to do what I need.

Its a '100 streets'challenge in aid of Support In Mind Scotland

The idea is to walk/run or cycle 100 different streets in a day.

To make it a bit more challenging I said any pal who sponsored at least £10 could pick a street.

The upshot is I have 32 sponsored (mostly very hilly) streets all over the city. I also have 100 streets to link them into a circuit.

I'm genuinely surprised my city tour will involve about 60 miles!

I'll be doing that this wednesday. Hopefully storm free!

  20. I'm particular about charities I'll support. Generally children's or mental health ones. This SIMS is one I heard about when a friend became involved with them last year.

I've got them on my radar now. Will always support mental health charities, having seen up close how unable the NHS and other services are to provide the necessary support & the fall-out from that lack.

My coding-fu is not very strong, but I am looking at Overpass Turbo and would like to run a query that shows me all the <somethings> whose name begins with <letter>, so for example all the parks in Edinburgh that begin with A. I have my query showing all the parks, but don't know how to refine it by name.

This shows all the ones which being with A, I think: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/10ni

The important bit is the regular expression for "starts with an A", which is "^A".
