“UK cycle industry predicted to sell 1 million fewer bikes this year“

There are clearly quite enough bicycles in the UK of GB&NI already to satisfy conceivable demand for several years.
In a sane society this surfeit of bicycles would be celebrated and the bicycle-makers and sellers would get to do something else until there was a need for bicycles.

@Iwrats I hope you aren't questioning the ineffable logic of the free market from which all good and freedom* flows.
*quality of good and freedom available may vary according to geographical birth location, race, gender and other factors that a logical actor would have chosen more wisely. The system accepts no responsibility for any suffering that may ensue as a result.

Sorry, low blood sugar, bit giddy.
I've just sawn the Scaffolding Bike™ into bits and put them in the LANDFILL bin. I loved that bike, but our economy demands sacrifices from me and the planet.
Come on guys - let's all get buying. Something flimsy and short-lived ideally.

Should be some good deals.
In similar news the Vidal Sassoon salon in Multrees Walk is closing citing lack of footfall because the St James Centre shut.
I wonder what the overlap on Venn diagram is between those who favour the vidal Sassoon style of cutting and those who went in the back of st James to go to super drug etc.
In possible opposite news one of only four Odeon Lux (ury) cinemas is (re)opening in wester hailes in Nov.
In very local news I was talking to bruvver of unhurt in Scotmid there about certain items left in a shed/summerhouse.

those who favour the vidal Sassoon style of cutting
Famously based on the techniques used by Chinese tailors to cut silk? Big fan myself.

@IWRATS, could be,who can say ?, I am merely relaying the info from those in the know. In other very local news, despite the lateness of the season I have just been up to check on my brambles and there is Jeely yet in them there hills.

could be,who can say ?
Alas, not Mr Sassoon.

Many spending ideas at this hashtag.

It is ONE fish box of miscellaneous stuff. He has left evidence of a crisp-splosion, a pink hairbrush, stickers and a Frozen picture book in my car. The moral high ground is mine.

Vidal has crimped his way off this mortal coil.
@unhurt, your brother has a phi hair brush and likes Frozen? That is not same guy I met in Scotmid?
Posted 6 years ago # -
He has a lady friend with a small girl. My car was coopted. Though he might well like Frozen - I haven't asked.

@unhurt on the linkee, that George Monbiot has five allotments. Hypocrtite Lecteur?
Posted 6 years ago # -
Is allotment hoarding a sign of consumer excess though? Or just some sort of vegetable pyramid scheme?

@weefoldingbike - A classic

I had to go to the south side to get it.
It doesn't fold so it's a New Pin not a Kingpin.
A wee bit too mint, steel rims, white tyres, Wood valves. Generator doesn't turn.
Nobody will know what it is so I can lock it outside places.

In the Mike Leigh movie happy go lucky, Sally Hawkins makes the mistake after a jolly cycle of not locking this bike, or similar and is surprised to find it knicked as she thought who would want to Nick it?
So yes, lock it as someone else will want it
Posted 6 years ago # -
I've got the DVD of that movie somewhere. I'll need to find it and check what kind of bike it was.
I always lock them.
I once asked Mike Leigh what his favourite yoghurt was but didn't mention the bike. Next time.

@weefolds, it us at the start , the bike scene. Has scary driving instructor played by Eddie Marsdan with catchphrase - En RA Ha
"Fortunately the BBC has installed state of the art first aid facilities for just this sort of folding bike accident"
Quote from episode six of W1A, on tomorrow or available on catch up (well go beyond catch up and see the future)

I watched it when I got the DVD but it's not one of my favourite Leigh movies.

I like them all from Bleak Moments onwards, life is sweet, high hopes and happy go lucky all similar see also It's all just secrets and lies.
Naked a lot harder.
Vera drake, cup of tea?
Never saw the Gilbert and Sullivan one all the way through but liked Mr Turner
Seems I am a fan. Less keen on the plays but still like them.

Nuts in May, Abigail's Party?
Not seen Vera Drake. Having kids means you don't get to see as many grown up movies and they don't seem to be on TV as much these days.
I like Topsy Turvey but I already like G&S.
I'm in Dorset every summer where Nuts in May was filmed. I don't have a banjo but I've usually got a uke with me.

We've done or bit and bought twice as many bikes this year as last. Only one new one, but it was this year.

I know a chap and his family who are single handedly keeping a bike shop going in Glasgow.
A medical man and a medical woman
I know another medical man who bought lot of art from wee galleries in Glasgow he was known by the gallery owners as The Good Doctor, as he kept them going too.
@weefoldingbike, to the same campsite? But not in May. I like the plays but they are excruciating

So recession is ending (apparently) and people are switching back to cars or are we at peak bike?

Other less right-wing conspiracy-minded survivalist supply vendors are also available.
BTW does anyone want to crowdfund a bunker?

Tisos?
I just love the things that Americans imagine you need to survive the breakdown of society. Combat hand sanitiser is a particular favourite, but the best is the (presumably) self-defeating Brain Force Plus intelligence booster.

Combat hand sanitiser
Well, war IS a dirty business.
Top scientists and researchers agree: we are being hit by toxic weapons in the food and water supply that are making us fat, sick, and stupid.
Those top scientists and researchers, they really get around. However, I am happy to have found something to blame for my size, health and intellectual issues.
