I have entered it. As it's got a fair bit of night riding and every chance of being very cold I'll be taking a rain check the night before. Don't mind the cold and dark but combined with rain it's not good. I've had two bad chest infections this year and I don't want a third.

I'm planning to do this, it's probably, as cyclingmollie mentioned, more challenging than a summer 200 due to darkness, weather and also remoteness from convenient bail out points. But would recommend it wholeheartedly for these reasons :)

Pondering the shorter one, but cycling to Gala and back instead of getting the train.

Navigation on the first and last quarter is pretty straightforward, which is good in the dark. The middle bit is a little trickier but is in daylight.

The organiser says that the event is very popular this year owing to a magazine article. It's a great chance to see some wildlife and gorgeous autumnal tree colours.

where are the long / short routes ?

I have a google maps route for the long, but can't see anything for the short.

Looks like it's to Eskdalemuir and back - probably same route as longer one.

I was thinking of the shorter version but hasn't the deadline for entry come and gone?

@Mandop1: i swapped emails with the organiser today, she was still fine for people to enter, but I guess you'd need to be quick.

Yes, the entry buttons are still visible on the event pages.

There's a cycle-jumble at the event HQ. Label items with your name and price and hand them to the organiser at the start. Collect your vast riches when you get back. Kerching!

There was a whole bike at the last jumble (flying Scotsman). Ideal if you has a last minute gear failure

Have entered the Home for Teatime, shorter route.

Currently planning to cycle to Gala via Innerleithen, leaving by 7am. May cycle back from Gala, or may get train instead.

But mostly dry, and not too windy. Looking forward to it.

Took me until Heriot on the drive home to feel my feet. Met a guy in Eskdalemuir on the return leg who forgot his overshoes too..

Sheltering from a hail storm in England. Photo by amir. Jacksonpriest had found a gezebo with lounge furniture and didn't want to leave.

    Just the right size.

Given the weather on the return, I was thinking of buying one and affixing it to the bike.

The wheeled gazebo has already been invented; it's called a car.
