I'm looking for a source of fresh lemongrass and galangal, within ~ 5 mins cycle from Lady Lawson Street. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Dunno about fresh, but there's a wee shop on the west/south side of Brougham Place which has huge bags of a wide variety of tasty spice things.

I'd try the fruit and veg shop on Argyle Place, it's got a name like Global Exotics or something like that, just the other side of the Meadows from you.

Further afield if anyone ever needs pretty much anything Asian/African/Indian Sub-continental then get yourselves to Global Foods, which is hidden in an unremarkable warehouse in Norton Park (off of Rossie Place) in Abbeyhill.

There's a thai shop on Dalry rd, not far from Haymarket.

Thanks @wingpig and @kaputnik - I thought Argyle Place might be my best bet so I'll try there. Will report back later by way of closure...

And thanks @SRD - I'll try Dalry Rd if no luck at Argyle Place.

    No it’s the Scouts.

    You're thinking of Shalangal.

A quick StreetView search was enough to convince me that Thai@Haymarket would be the place to go. Galangal and lemongrass duly sourced in a very slick operation that only required 15 minutes of my lunch break. Thanks for the suggestions.

My Kalio has the potential to be a flavour sensation....

And no, it wasn't the Bay City Rollers, or the Scouts; it was the Carpenters.

After me: "Every galangal, every kalio-o, still shines...."
