APPEAL AFTER CYCLIST SADLY DIES FOLLOWING COLLISION IN BLACKFORD AREA

We're appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in the Blackford area of the city.

The collision took place on Charterhall Road around 1pm yesterday (Friday) and involved a cyclist, travelling westbound, and a parked dark grey Mitsubishi car.

The 61-year-old cyclist was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he sadly passed away.

The road was closed in both directions until around 3.30pm while investigations were conducted at the scene.

Sergeant Neil Crozier of the Road Policing Unit said: "Our thoughts remain with the cyclists family at this difficult time and enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision. As part of our investigation, we'd urge anyone who may have witnessed this and who has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Edinburgh's Road Policing Unit via 101, quoting incident number 1543 of 27th October.

Not sure I should be repeating unconfirmed speculation, but someone on reddit is saying this was a dooring.

@Frenchy, one of the frustrating things in these cases is that often the outcome of the investigation into the accident is never made public. (Unless there is a prosecution some months later).
Although we all try to avoid speculation, in the absence of any official information, then people will do just that. Not saying your source is right or wrong.

This is dreadful news. My thoughts with the poor man's Family.

Unfortunately this road one of my has recently became part of a regular route for me. I have seen some bad driving in the city but this section and the Colinton Village Dip & Climb get my nomination for the Worst Roads to Cycle in Edinburgh.

Cycled east along charter hall this morning, many flatbed trucks parked up, lot of close passes. Ghost bike at the end.

Odd that this is being reported now, has been there over a month.

Article clearly suggesting car dooring? Unless the poor guy cycled into the parked car, unlikely as wide road? Anyway enough speculation
