The prudential in Stirling have a large campus somewhat similar to RBS in Edinburgh. There is a good safe cycle route linking to Stirling that uses the path and the Prudential's drive. It is on google and well used. Well today when cycled back from Calendar I was shocked and appalled to see a barrier. Then at the back of prudential 4 signs saying no access emergency use only and warning of cctv. The path goes through a woods round the back too narrow for a car only bikes use this path. There is no emergency that involves a walk in the woods, it would not be a useful or obvious emergency route. They are just trying to block the cycle route. Not sure they are allowed to block this as path is not invasive, its in a woods behind and then using the drive in a similar way people use the Rbs drive. If I lived there I would see the council to see if could take the sign down. In the borders was told not allowed to run through a caravan park so the council sent access person round to say people can run or walk that way and they may make park a recommended walk.

They may be doing it to pre-empt the cycle route being planned from calendar to Stirling that will become part of national network.

You can still raise the problem with the local authority's access officer. You don't have to be a Stirling resident.

If it's the same bit I'm thinking of then that route can be used by cars and is a designated emergency exit.

It's been used unofficially on a couple of occasions recently when some traffic snarl up or other has caused major delays on the motorway flyover. The result being lots of staff trying to nip out the back via the farm road and the farmer getting hacked off.

So I suspect the signs are aimed at Prudential staff rather than the general public but I could be wrong.
