My second B&M Secula Plus tail light is about to die in a fashion similar to the previous one, with the connecting wires being bashed/yanked/forced out of the housing. It's definitely a design flaw for a bike that spends a lot of its time in close proximity with others on the train.

    Any suggestions for good alternatives?

Just get a battery rear light instead?

Like this with a big reflector built in:

Bolts onto rear carrier. Batteries last for ages, as long as you remember to switch it off (Simple on/off switch on base).

The one on my hybrid still going after eight years: changed batteries maybe three or four times. Currently about eight quids on fleaBay. Have similar light on rear of Raleigh tourer, six years old, changed batteries twice. Pashley Pronto has the same too. Both these bikes have hub dynamo front lamps.

Try the Seculite instead? Still dynamoid but mine have survived quite well on the end of my mudguard.

I am 100% wedded to the joy of not having to turn off bike lights, so would rather dynamo if I can. Will look at seculite.

If you have a rear rack, something from the B&M Toplight range? Rack mounted lights seem to survive a bit better than mudguard mounted ones: less vibration, less crud and water gets to them.

Reroute the wires so they run tight along the tubes of the rack and thus not prone to damage?

SJS sell replacement covers/lenses for the Seculite, but I haven't needed them since I started putting a cable-tie round the narrow bit to stop the cover coming off.

I've had a few of these:

    https://www.rosebikes.com/article/b--m-selectra-plus-dynamo-back-light/aid:724312

Which broke, but some turned out to be the SM10 overvoltage protector.

So I bought a few of these:

They have worked faultlessly for a few years and are FAR brighter!!

I have a b&m toplight plus which is ok. For neatness now I'd go with a supernova E3 taillight which you can clip on to the seat post - this eliminates the potentially weak link of getting the wiring to the rear pannier or mudguard.
