Did Black Friday not use to be last Friday of November? You would think it was a marketing ploy rather than a real thing

Black Friday early this year?

Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November, which won't always be the last Thursday.
Which, of course, makes Black Friday a totally real thing and not at all a marketing ploy.

I am having nothing to do with it whenever it starts. Since last year it seemed to go on for about a month, it meant I saved money before Christmas as I couldn't buy anything for ages. Result!

I think retailers have realised that paying for lots of server capacity just to handle one self-inflicted traffic spike in November is a bit silly, so they've tried to spread it a bit more this year.
