I'd heard Project Gotham Racing had modelled central Edinburgh in some detail but I've never played it.

Its great except them moved the well(?) at the bottom of Victoria street into the Grassmarket to keep the racing line. Typical even the computer game road planners are philistines

50/50 weight distribution is a good thing for not spinning whilst moving, and easily changed to rear weighted if required by putting some sand/logs/whatever in the boot.

A drift on the brakes with your left foot and bags of throttle with the right is great fun but not recommended for public roads as it's rather easy for us mere mortals to overdue... (damhikijkok!!)
But on a video game.. go for it! :)

I've never owned anything but rear wheel drive cars. I find a lot of people blame RWD for them not being able to move their car but if you're careful with the gas and don't expect to move off with your front wheels angled it's usually fine.

I've got kid seats in the trunk so they weigh the back end down a bit.

When I reported to the school for some reason today there were a dozen or so cars still in the car park from Monday. A thick % were RWD Mercs and Mazdas. I may have been watching a PE teacher with a big flashy Merc fail to get out of a space on Monday. At least I told her that she had knocked her wiper blades off by trying to get rid of snow the easy way.

And yes. 4x4 is not a magic bullet. However I have been authorised to look for a cheap old Defender.

  6. Ah, an old Defender. Now that is a proper 4x4!

Memsahib is fed up being stuck when the weather gets bad. Nobody is getting out of this estate... except me. Lots of cars are sitting at the bottom of the hill. Some of the 4x4 looking cars are actually front wheel drive only.

My only small problem is that the 6 forward facing seats in some Defenders don't all have three point belts. I have 4 weans. I wouldn't be using it much when the weather was OK.

I'm really not bothered what they look like. Beat up is fine. I like how there is no part which can't be cut out or unbolted and replaced.

Ohh, need to talk to the bank too but you can get coil spring 2.5l diesel Land Rovers for around £2K in Autotrader if you don't mind them being from the early/mid 90s. This is probably the wrong time to buy one so I'll leave it till spring/summer before I look seriously.

I've never seen a Series with 6 forward facing seats and I'm not allowed to put the kids on a crew bench.

Worth having a look at the SORC (Scottish Off Road Club)* website rather than auto-trader. More likely yo get an honest deal!

*or other owner clubs, I only mention SORC because I know it :)

Meanwhile in Middlesborough, bus driver shows motorists how to climb icy hill.

"One person who worked with him and drove the route regularly, praised him for 'a brilliant piece of driving'. A local resident also felt compelled to Facebook about his 'magnificent achievement'."
