    Yes, possibly not the best place to lock a bike, but no excuse to do this. Really can't imagine that bike actually inconvenienced anyone.

    That said, that part of Stockbridge is hardly awash with bike parking unless you want to use one of the posts on the pavement where the bike will undoubtedly be more in the way.

    i think a note on the bike would have a greater effect.

    Is there a small chance it might have been a kindly van driver getting it out of the way so as not to mangle it when passing?

    I concur. Plenty of space to get a van past - at least, if there aren't several antisocially parked cars on the tother side. Though usually they like to block the pavement, which must be nice for the elderly residents of the care home at the bottom of the lane.

    Update: Bike still in place, although more upside-down now. Has be relieved of anything easily removable. Shame, was a nice bike once.
