I'm looking for recommendations for a restaurant to take Mr fimm to for his birthday. We'll eat any kind of food...

We know the Dalry places (First Coast etc, that area) well. I'm thinking Morningside / Brunstfield or Murrayfield / Corstorphine. Any suggestions / favourites?

Three Birds and Apiary are part of the same "chain" (along with Educated Flea on Broughton Street) and quite nice and friendly.

The spice lounge on the hill between Corstorphine and Drumbrae has won a few awards.

I haven't been so cant comment if the atmosphere is suitable for a tete a tete.

    Thanks everyone, any more?

(We've been to Osteria del Tempo Perso - for Mr fimm's birthday last year. I would recommend it also, but he wants to go somewhere different. We were going to try Locanda del Guisti but they don't open on Sundays...)

I like Cool Jade opposite the Zoo. Kind of upmarket chinese restuarant without which won't blow the budget.

If you fancy Japanese food then I would recommend Harajuku Kitchen in Bruntsfield.

My favourite local Indian and Chinese have just appeared.

The Spice Lounge is great. Very friendly staff and a large enough restaurant that large groups and couple can both be accommodated without imposing on one another.

We've only dined in at Cool Jade once but as HC says very nice. Never been disappointed with their takeaway.

Miller and Carter at Cramond Brig does good food but last time we were there it was definitely showing it's chain restaurant nature. Atmosphere and service felt like a Beefeater, although the food was considerably better.

Magna Hungaria on W Maitland Street? Definitely proper Hungarian food, though that may or may not be to your taste. You will not be hungry afterwards (possibly for DAYS).The irsai white is lovely. Bit brightly lit, though, so may or may not be sufficiently romanticy.

We went to the Three Birds and it was very nice. We might go back and try the seafood sharing platter next time!
