Post-Weather, pre-Festive PY Rendezvous?

I fixed the whole Christmas thing at my office (all two of us). I forbade my employee from giving any gift to me, as that would entail the necessity of reciprocating, and I hate both ends of gifting. Additionally, I am not taking anyone out to lunch, dinner, and we're working until 6 p.m. Christmas Eve.

    Regards,

    E. Scrooge

SRD - if it wasn't so South Side Centric I'd bring a Gembo Loaf[from breadmaker but not bad - wholemeal or pan loafy] Alas my bramble jelly has gone a bit sugary but was worth the effort and the jeely bag. It is also my Xmas Lunch [other string pointing out the whole of Edinburgh is Xmas Lunching that day]. Also last of the six nativities I have had to attend. Nearly a fight last year when I innocently sat in front row which is traditionally for the parents who help with the mince pies. Mea Culpa.

Gembo/Spitfire -- so what about the Caley sample room -- we can just exchange pints :)

The fact that we have two possible pre-Christmas meets just shows you how diverse we are!

As it is the weather may get in the way again.

I have some LB cards to dispose of. I fully expect a backlash with people telling me how wasteful my cards are!

    two

Three, including the German market meet. Lets hope their mulled wine, strudel and sausages are more reliable than their Siemens trains.

@SRD - pint swappage sounds fine to me - but Caley no longer has cider on draught so I am not happy about this and suggest a new venue - roond the corner at the Ardmillan which has a more homely intimate feel and don't play loud music all the time (plus there is plenty railings/fence to lock up bikes :)

spitfire/SRD - can do nip/coffee/chat in Ardmillan Hotel and still get on my bike safely, unless blizzard then it is on with the Santa Costume and into the Hot Tom and Jerrys ( a la Damon Runyon short story)

I forecast 2 to 3" of snow on the uncleared areas, about 0 deg in a biting North Easterly wind with flurries of snow coming in to make sure we're all paying attention.
Will call for extra sticky buns :)

Hmmmm...does Ardmillan do decent beer? I'm quite fond of cider, but these days can only handle 3-5% ABV drinks.... Caley also does v. nice nibbles.

Anyway, set a day! Pretty much anything other than Friday 17th do-able.

@SRD - 3 to 5 % ABV or 3.5% ABV. I favour the latter Deuchars is 3.8% - nice. Spitfire could go bottle of cider {cockney rhyming slang for which is lemon]. Also Diggers sells beer on the same block. It is not so hot on nibbles.

I would say the Diggers too for beer choice.
Caley nibbles are nice but small portions and cost the same as my house...

3 to 5 % ABV -- I like a nice mild if I can get it, but am v. happy with 80 sh. or porter...or IPA.

    Diggers then? What day? Time?

I can do (due?) a Deuchars too. Gonna have to be next week for me now - I need to rack up some flexi time for a Friday afternoon off to let Mrs Spytfyre away to works party...

wingpig -2°C (online), -1°C (ambient). Packed ice with a light surface dusting at the edges of the path, slightly crusty snow with clear patches on the Meadows, slight frosting on the path surface. 10mph, blowing south-west.

cb -4 outside PY, a pleasant 20 inside.
90% of today's current snow still there, but looking decidedly scruffy by then. However a fresh 5cm will have covered it in a nicely unblemished layer, untouched by an Edinburgh populace now fed up with the white stuff.
Wind 15 - 20mph from the north east making it buff-tastically cold.

    LATE FORECAST...
smudge: I forecast 2 to 3" of snow on the uncleared areas, about 0 deg in a biting North Easterly wind with flurries of snow coming in to make sure we're all paying attention.

Think we're now too close to Friday to allow any more forecasts!

I like the idea of the Diggers BTW!

I've never been to Diggers but have heard it has a good reputation for pulling a pint of ale so would happily chalk it off the "1001 places to drink in Edinburgh before you die" list.

That is, if it's not strictly westside only and people from east of Yeaman Place are invited too? :)

Oh come on you lot! Surely you can organise a booze-up in a brewery pub? :-P

We could arrange to meet-up for a cup of tea in a café which is also a speciality food shop (perhaps V&C on Elm Row or Victor Hugo), though that would require the ability to organise a brew-up in an épicerie.

    That's the spirit!

Would love to make the PY coffee, but doubt it will happen, but am just waiting for Spytfyre to choose a day next week.

Argh, man flu! Was hoping to take detour and catch the PY meet but don't want to infect anybody. As this only became serious yesterday I doubt I will be up for much next week either I'm afraid
Wednesday would be the best day though as I have my folks Mon/Tue and we head away to inlaws on the Thursday
    9 sleeps till Crimbo

Manflu notwithstanding, do folk still think they will be able to make it to PY tomorrow? Snowtuation doesn't look too bad here. Could be famous last words..

Inability to be organised enough to leave the house before 08:45 notwithstanding, I see no reason why not. The last bit can be walked if MMW is still sporting little patches of slideyness.

That's the plan, Min. Are we still going for 8am, or plus-or-minus depending on our sleep patterns?

I can / shall be there c. 0745 though as I really need to be away by 0810 as some eejit has put 0900 audio meetings in my diary. What's wrong with my usual 0910 start to the working day?

7.45 sounds a bit better for me. I need to be in sharp since I have stuff to do before chrissie lunch.

Don't think I will make it.

Are you still doing the oily-bits-of-old-bike-palmed-off-as-secret-Santa thing?

    Posted 13 years ago #
  29. Aye, 7.45 ish for me is fine - though I will be popping the cricket on my phone (assuming a 3G signal) so my attention may be distracted at points... ;)

    "popping the cricket "

    Is that a euphemism?
