Up to 100 places are up for grabs on a celebratory glow in the dark bike ride through the heart of Edinburgh to celebrate the Capital becoming Scotland's first 20mph city.

It seems that this involves taking your own bike and fitting LED lights to it for a three mile ride. It isn't clear if the lights have to be returned afterwards or not.

Promoting cyclists' responsibility to make themselves more visible and 20mph as a cycle-safety scheme. Hmmm. Mixed feelings.

I thought lights that aren't plain old red in back white in front were technically illegal on the road. Am I wrong?

Edit: I don't mean blinky lights, I mean any other colour than red or white. I feel like on a normal ride you're more likely to get pulled by plod for having multicoloured fairy lights/glowsticks/EL wire all over your bike than for no lights at all. In which case it's a strange promotion.
