This is essentially arguing that the CPZ needs to be extended eastwards and northwards from its current boundaries. It's an official CEC petition.

To read and perhaps sign go here:

I'm entirely in support of this. Our streets are in prime position for park-and-walk commuting into New Town offices and shopkeepers on Leith Walk

Visit at 7am on a Sunday morning and you will see virtually none of the parking free for all that people identify with Leith Walk and surrounds. Transient visitors like delivery drivers and care workers have no choice but to double park because all of the slack in parking is taken up by all-day commuter parking 8am onwards.

Heading north and east, the CPZ finishes less than 1km from Register House.

Heading south, it extends nearly 4km all the way to Cameron toll

Heading southeast through Bruntsfield, it ends 3km from the Caley Hotel in Morningside.

I'm glad LCCC is taking a new approach on this, because when I raised this issue about 3 years ago with them under AOB it was immediately dismissed as something that would be "unpopular with residents"

    The tide is turning

A Councillor told me that locals residents were split about 50/50 between those who wanted to be able to find a parking space more easily, by extending the RPZ, to those that didn't want to have pay for parking. I don't think that commuter parcers should have any say in this, but as it's an open consultation then this that care about decreasing congestion, pollution, making the roads safer and making more space for public transport, emergency services and cycling should make their views known.

The petition will apparently be considered at the Transport & Environment Committee meeting on 14th May. It has been kept open until 10th May, so if you wish to sign and have yet to do so, there is still time.
