East Lothian Council are developing a Masterplan for people walking, cycling and travelling sustainably in and around Musselburgh which extends into Midlothian and Edinburgh. Please find attached an image illustrating the area under consideration.

    Placecheck tool:
Please use the following simple online map tool to give us your views – it is important that we understand the needs of the local people who will be using the network in future. We are keen to hear your views on what works, what needs improved and any opportunities you are aware of. The survey will close on 16th March. Please share and circulate this email to anyone who may be interested or affected.

    Background
We know that Musselburgh will be growing in the future and this study provides the opportunity to consider how this can be done more sustainably, without relying on private cars for journeys. The Masterplan will aim to create an accessible network around Musselburgh to suit the needs of everyone moving in and through the area and connecting into Midlothian and Edinburgh. It will also look at key spaces, such as the town centre, to consider how these places can be improved sustainably for local people and businesses, visitors, and for those who work and study in the area.

    Next Steps:
We are planning to meet with key stakeholders to discuss the Masterplan mid-March. A public exhibition and online consultation regarding the Masterplan and details of the emerging routes will take place mid-April.

    Public exhibition - tommorrow

On behalf of East Lothian Council we would like to let you know we starting our public engagement on Musselburgh’s Future Sustainable and Accessible Transport Masterplan. The Masterplan is at a draft stage and would like your feedback in shaping the network and initial ideas for route design options. Please see attached leaflet with background information.

We are keen to get as wide a reach as possible with local communities, businesses and interest groups so please share this email with anyone who you think will be interested in the project.

We are holding a public exhibition to discuss our proposed network and route plans on Thursday 3 May from 4pm to 8pm at Brunton Hall, Musselburgh, EH21 6AA. The exhibition will take place in the Regent Room on the ground floor, and will take the form of a drop-in session. The room is fully accessible and cycle parking is available at the main entrance. However, please let us know if you have any additional access requirements or alternative forms of responding to this consultation.

An online consultation is also available with all materials on East Lothian Councils Consultation Hub: http://eastlothianconsultations.co.uk

The overall consultation period and online survey (live tomorrow) ends on Friday 18th May.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you require any further information or should you like to discuss any aspect further.

Interesting topic raised at last night's CRAG meeting with Alex Hynes - Scotrail losing out to buses in E Lothian, because the car parking at stations is overflowing & few seem to consider cycling - a key option to get behind schemes like the 5 Km path between Gullane & Drem, and perhaps improve on the Haddington- Longniddry offer (or getting the Belters down from Tranent to Prestonpans (or Wallyford?))

East Linton and Reston also mentioned, and perhaps CP6 spending. Biggest problem no space for fast expresses to pass slower stopping trains.
