"PLANS to build one of the world's biggest ferris wheels in Edinburgh have taken a huge step forward after it emerged a deal has been struck on a site.

Great City Attractions - the company behind the world's biggest observational wheel in Singapore - has clinched a deal to build a similar structure at Edinburgh's waterfront."

It's going to have a gigantic picture of Alex Salmond on the side, slowly revolving...

Will it be powered by wind or hot air?

Just what we need for...what do we need it for?

"It is understood that the wheel could be operational by as early as 2013 if the planning process goes smoothly. "

Oh, okay. Phew. It'll not happen in my lifetime then.

I wonder if a "flight" on the wheel will be similar to the London Eye? Currently an eye-watering £18.90.

UPDATE: Or £29.70 if you want to skip the hour long queue!

"Scotland's notional wheel" might be more appropriate for the timebeing.

Would have been better if they'd left the old bit.

I DO think those silos are iconic . The way that they change colour with light/clouds is really inspiring (from a distance)

Maybe Leith is just trying to be more like Falkirk?

@cb - from reading the story I don't see any mention of the Scottish Parliament having anything to do with this
