The first day of spring is the first day you step out and smell earth, having forgotten during the dark days that earth has a smell.
The end of spring is the first day you try sitting on grass but get a wet bum.

But IWRATS you have been trialling the arrival of spring for weeks now and look what has happened

@gembo
I am considering gaiters. That's gaiters. In town. Can winter be far away?

I knew this had to be someone's fault. Thanks, @gembo, for speaking the difficult truth.

i have been shouting at radio 4 hourly--since when is today the first day of spring?

In meteorological terms, today is the first day of spring. Because the astronomical seasons vary they are not very good for comparing data, so for statistical purposes the met office use fixed dates for the seasons. Hence, they define seasons in 3 month blocks with Spring starting on 1st March.

they define seasons in 3 month blocks
No way are seasons 3 months in Scotchland. I've seen values from 0 to 6 in my short life.
Who is excited to learn that my time lapse camera didn't get smoored by sna during the Beast from the East and is still running in a high wild place?

You, for one, I judge?

I am stoked dude.

Any chance of sharing the results?

It shall be so. Slight delay while I source creative commons bagpipe music to dub on. May leave camera another day or two for CCE challenge to find it. It is on Craigmillar Hill.

What is the frequency of frames that you're using?
Trying to work out how to time my dance routine for maximum artist effect once I do find it :-)
Posted 6 years ago # -
One frame every 30s, played back at 30fps. Good luck!

In Sweden they typically define spring as the first time daytime temperature is above freezing for 7 days...
So it comes to Skåne sooner than it does in Norrbotten... Just sayin'

Spring Equinox fast approaching
Posted 6 years ago # -
The camera did not snow up. The footage is in. Stand by to view it before the equinox. When is that?
HankChief's dancing pretty subtle.

Here is the Eastern Beast at 900 times real speed...

A cold and lonely spot you understand

@IWRATS: excellent!

Fantastic iwrats!

Weird thing is you can barely see the two nights. Full moon, snow cover and thirty seconds between frames....
Posted 6 years ago # -
@IWRATS cool video. What camera did you use?
Posted 6 years ago # -
@jdanielp
Cheers! It is a Brinno TLC200 Pro in a special Scotland-proof house.
Just let me know if you wish to borrow for a trial.

@iwrats yes it seemed to get dark very briefly twice? At one point maybe two thirds through I thought a beast came on stage left but otherwise nothing venturing out? Or do you get more action at normal speed?
Posted 6 years ago # -
@IWRATS looks good, if surprisingly lowish resolution. Did you use HDR? That combined with the low light sensitivity presumably were responsible for the subtlety of the nights if so. Is the weatherproof box also camouflaged to try to reduce the chance of it bring spotted? I'll mull over ideas...

Great video. I must have mistimed my dance routine...

If daffodils are a sign of spring the. Last week saw spring in our Garden. However they were well and truly hurried despite being in a very sheltered spot under a bush.
Time will tell how the other ones have fared.
