No idea. I discovered this is action. The last time I was on the path was a month or so ago and I got stopped in a similar place by a police man. He wouldn't say why it was closed

I believe a car hit the auchendinny bridge parapet, so it's masonry is now unsafe.

Oh great. So cars destroying active travel routes now, as well as everything else.
Bollards, houses, birds, mammals, pavements, road surface, humans, traffic lights, railings, air we breathe, bridges.
The destruction list is endless.

It has re-opened now, according to Midlothian Advertiser, although another temporary closure is expected sometime in future.
