Have a meeting there tomorrow and will take lecky bike.. It is on the roundabout between esk bank and Bonnyrigg. Is there a good route. With the lecky bike you can take a detour so I have gone to Dalkeith via brunstane and newcraighall then whitecraig basically to avoid the main roads of MIdlothain but is there a more direct but also pleasant route? Can I get under sheriffhall roundabout for example? Spokes Map then has a route.?

Not for a few years.I'd go out Gilmerton Road, taking the shared path from the Gilmerton Station Road roundabout until either the A7 roundabout or the Melville Gate Road roundabout. Plenty of dropped kerbs along there, including a new one right at the end of the path, so you can rejoin where suits you.
Then down the B6392 into Eskbank, and take the 3rd exit onto Dalhousie Road, then through the train station and over the A7. OSM shows a footpath into the hospital from the cyclepath.
Alternative options would include:
Turning right onto the A7 at the roundabout just past Dobbie's. Flatter than the way I suggested above, but the A7 is pretty busy at the best of times and I don't like the roundabouts.
Taking Bonnyrigg Road from the Eskbank roundabout. You'd then avoid the slightly fiddly route through the train station, but you'd have to deal with the roundabout at the A7.
If you take one of the routes into the centre of Eskbank, can you keep an eye peeled for NCN signs? Sustrans' map shows these going along Dalhousie Road from the station to the centre of town, then back out along Newbattle Road. The council's maps show it taking a more direct route along Ancrum Bank, and I'd like to know which is correct on the ground.

Ancrum Bank is unsigned but far nicer than the 'real' route.

This is what I expected, ta.

They're relaying the road at Melville roundabout and the road surface is pretty unpleasant (was there last week) on the B6392 into Eskbank. I'd suggest Gilmerton then on the shared path to Dobbies then turn right onto the A7 which takes you almost directly. Other route is through Lasswade up the monster but the cars are really not used to meeting bikes there and can be scary.

Took road through Gilmerton past dobbie's took the newly resurfaced route to esk bank, they have also added a roundabout there. Came a cropper at the Justin Lees roundabout and ended up on the Bonnyrigg bypass. Not so enjoyable. Once at Bonnyrigg I was able to take the cycle path back down to the hospital. Busy with peds and dog walkers. No cyclists. The car is the king in Midlothian.

Can't tell if you're serious here...but whereabout?

Yeah serious, where they have been repairing the surface just at Melville castle, so heading south the left exit is the Dalkeith route via lugton brae and the straight ahead or right exit is the road to esk bank. Nice wide cycle lane that narrows quickly at the wee bridge down near the bottom of the hill.
