    Stolen from the bike racks opposite the Shelter Shop on Raeburn Place in Stockbridge this evening. Found the cut lock 20 yards down the road. Unlikely, but if anyone sees the bike or is offered it for sale give us a shout? Dark grey, lime green details, front and rear mudguards, rear pannier rack, Marathons, SPD pedals, "cyclists stay awesome sticker" on rear mudguard... I've reported to 101 and put it on Bike Register. Just picked it up from getting the wheels trued after an unfortunate encounter with an aggressive speed bump on Saturday - I'd say troubles come in threes but it's hard to see what the third bicycle-related trouble might be in the circumstances...

    @Vez

    Know that the ravens are waiting. Infuriating and saddening.

    @Vez, how horrible. I really hope it turns up somewhere. Guess you're keeping an eye on Gumtree & such?

    Did your lock come with a guarantee? The Kryptonite ones used to (I may be thinking back in the 80s now) If you found the pieces, you can at least prove that it was at fault and get some compensation.

    @vez that's brutal.

    I am a believer in karma, these people deserve whatever is in store - hopefully involving vats of boiling oil......or something.

    What type of lock? D or cable?

    @Vez, sorry to hear that and I hope it reappears quickly. Do you think this was a bolt-cutter job or more serious hardware such as angle-grinder?

    Thanks everyone! A kind friend has lent me a bike so at least I can get around quicker now (walking - so inefficient!) It was a chain lock like this:

    Bolt cutters I reckon. I'd never locked up there before and was away for just under 2 hours, which I guess means someone is walking around with bolt cutters on the off chance. They left two Halfords bikes on the racks which at least shows taste. I'll check out that find that bike site, thanks @sallyhinch - I am watching eBay and gumtree too. Hopefully insurance will cough up and not have some hidden condition!

    Not the sort of compliment you really want though! Good luck insurance wrangling.

    OK, who wants to hear some good news?
    I just collected my bike from Drylaw Polis. They took it off some youths who'd been trying to nick bikes at the Western General. Found me via bike register.
    I believe the perpetrators are now locked up with some hungry ravens...

    That's great news. I'm off to look at Bike Register.

    I recently met with BikeRegister's ex-Met Police police liaison officer. I was thoroughly impressed with the Big Data and diligence with which they operate, and I'm going to run some security marking sessions at work.

    Both the torpedo and my sparkly purple recumbent are already registered.
