    Had to check the date on that article:the picture of Barton Hotel still to be transformed into pensioners apartments and the reference to 'Barnton roundabout' really threw me!

    You've got to admire the ostriches in the comments:

    "The junction used to flow pretty well when it was a double roundabout - heaven knows which moron in the planning department thought that it was a spiffy idea to replace roundabouts with one-direction-at-a-time traffic lights."

    and

    "It did flow quite well as a double roundabout but it was a nightmare for the local pedestrians to cross. Possibly that might have been a factor in having lights."

    I'd love it to be possible to put the roundabouts back for a day with current traffic volumes as watch as the whole of that corner of Edinburgh grind to a standstill.

    I'm also not sure why they think a 6 stage pedestrian crossing, taking well over 5 minutes at times, is much better than what was there before.
