Charlotte Square as part of CCWEL

A planning application for improvements to the public realm in Charlotte Square has been submitted:

    https://citydev-portal.edinburgh.gov.uk/idoxpa-web/propertyDetails.do?activeTab=relatedCases&keyVal=LUFWTOEW03300

It dates originally from 2015 approved plans (and originally an extension of the 2011 plans), i.e. long before the CCWEL was thought of.

Remarkably, no cycle lanes or any other cycle facilities are shown at all (except cycle parking), despite recognising that the square lies on NCN 1. Cyclists are presumably expected to share the roads and junctions with other traffic as they do now.

How can this possibly square with what is proposed in terms of the City Centre West-East Cycle Link and the Central Edinburgh Transformation?

Please object if this concerns you.

    What a weird story

The applications are from the Bermudan (ha ha, aye right) holding company that proudly "owns most of the square!"

It is most peculiar to have a planning application for what are basically roads works.

I wonder why they keep renewing it given that they've had 7 years to build so far and not done a thing. Perhaps it gives them some sort of squatting rights to development in the area?

For what it's worth the plans look not bad if adapted with CCWEL project changes in due course.
