Can't find any threads specifically citing this on here, so it must have been Spokes' Facebook page which informed me of it. Think it was until at least 16:00 today...

Was there again this morning - got two bikes done - great stuff, plus Sustrans giving out D-locks if you need.

chapeau to all involved - more this sort of thing.

Spotted a WPC putting Bike Register leaflets on bikes racked up along George Street this morning. Clearly Phoilis na h-Alba consider this to be a genuine anti-theft tool.

Didn't see that. The bulky Abus protruding from my bag was noted by the shed security expert and the police with whom I was discussing other anti-theft measures such as never cleaning the bike and having mismatched mudguards and bar tape.

“such as never cleaning the bike and having mismatched mudguards and bar tape“

That’s probably good advice to a degree.

    Depends on thieves.

Used to be that a lot of bikes were stolen with the intention of stripping for parts, others just for ‘joyriding’.

    "Depends on thieves."

Those infesting Porty (judging by local Facebook groups) don't seem to care what they steal, as long as it annoys someone - presumably when they get something good they keep it or sell it, but a lot of their work seems to result in bikes being dumped somewhere in the Figgate Burn or Park.

Does bike marking have any value, if the frame is already numbered and it's registered on the big online register thing?

Thank you @wingpig. This is now going to be my response to all those very occasional and exclusively sunny weather road cyclists at work commenting on my manky bike.

There will be another police bike marking during the
Edinburgh Festival of Cyling on 14th June 2018 19:30 – 21:30, so timing a bit better for those not around Edinburgh during the day.

I think they said they'd be at Leith Gala Day too.

Popped by after renewing my driving licence at the post office. I got some advice about shed security at the same time. I'd recommend this if you can get aling to one of their sessions. And it was waaaay easier than using the post office!

Where is the post office now?

The post office is now in Waverley Market. Musselburgh one doesn't do driving licence renewals as it needs to be a branch with a photo ID system. Couldn't do it online as my passport has also expired and that is required for that method. So it was a bike ride in from East Lothian.
